Fact Sheet
on
Doron and Thomson
Conversions
Motion
simulators originally
manufactured by Doron and
Thomson have excellent
hydraulics and cabin
structures, but the motion
control systems and
audio/video systems are
outdated. The Doron SR-2
uses 16mm film. More recent
Doron and Thomson simulators
use laserdiscs.
Multi-Dimensional Studios
( MANT) has developed a motion
control system and
audio/video playback system
that uses a single circuit
board and computer to (1)
control the motion and other
simulator functions and (2)
play back the video and
audio from a computer hard
drive. This has the
following benefits:
1Easy computer interface.
The MANT system is operated
from a computer screen with
a simple interface that
allows for both automated
and manual control. In
normal operating mode, the
operator simply selects a
movie from the list of 10
movies, presses a download
button, and hits the start
button. The system is based
on Windows 2000, which is
included in the purchase
price.
The
operating screen also has
ten programmable buttons for
functions such as opening
and closing doors, turning
lights on and off, or any
other functions desired by
the operator. The system
includes 8 programmable
emergency-stop functions
(doors open, fire detector,
etc.) with on-screen
display.
Operator control over
motion. With the
MANT
system, simulator operators
have full control over the
motion of their simulators.
They can adjust motion
programs, increase speed and
power, add random motion at
any time (ideal for motion
rides), and even program
their own movies. The system
comes with a complete
instruction manual to
program motion and effects.
Effects option. The
MANT
system allows operators to
add special effects such as
wind, vibrators, water
misters, strobe lights,
etc. These are fully
programmable by the operator
as part of the motion
program.
3D option. The
MANT
system will operate equally
well for normal 2D movies or
for 3D movies. The 3D
option requires installation
of a special screen and
second projector.
Flexibility to add movies.
With the digital MPEG2
format for audio/video, it
is easy to add additional
movies. We can also provide
customized introductions
(advertisements for example)
or languages for an extra
cost. We have 30 movies in
our library. Movies
can be purchased
independently from other
movie producers as well
.
Low cost. The complete
conversion kit, including
computer, circuit board,
cables, installation
instructions, and 10 movies
each with a perpetual
license is only $9,995. This
is less than the cost of an
annual license for just 10
movies alone from Doron or
Thomson. Additional movies
are available for $1,000 to
$2,500, depending on the
title. Installation is an
additional $3,000, plus
travel, meals and lodging
for the technician. A
replacement projector
(required for Doron SR-2,
recommended for Thomson) is
$3,000. Upgraded Bose
Lifestyle 900 audio system
is an extra $2,000, and a
compartmentalized kit, with
all the components inside a
wheeled box, is an extra
$1,500.
The 3D
option is $5,000, which
includes 3D versions of the
10 movies, plus the
synchronized 3D digital
playback system. The
required 3D screen is an
additional $1,500, and the
system requires dual LCD
projectors for around $3,000
each, which can be purchased
by the customer locally or
through us. |
